Development Associate

Fall | 2014
Fall Administrative Intern
This internship offers meaningful experience and hands-on training in non-profit management. Our goal is to provide broad-based exposure across all functions of the organization including volunteer management, event coordination, inventory management, office administration, development, marketing, and special projects. We are looking for a responsible, efficient team member who is excited about helping Room to Grow fulfill its mission.


Room to Grow seeks an intern who is interested in non-profit management, fundraising, program operations, and early childhood development.  The intern would support the staff of Room to Grow in a variety of capacities.

Duties would include (but not be limited to):
• Database Management
• Development projects including assisting with appeal mailings and prospect research
• Inventory Tracking
• Special Event Coordination
• Marketing and Communications, including Social Media
• General Programmatic Support


Time Commitment:
• Minimum 6 hours a week, consisting of a regular schedule of 1 or 2 days or half-days a week

Strategic Communications VISTA
The Strategic Communications VISTA will work closely with Room to Grow’s Community Relations Manager and Executive Director to grow and strengthen the agency’s social media platform and effectively utilize the donor databases.

The VISTA will be the point person for maintaining a regular presence on social media using existing sites as well as establishing a presence for Room to Grow on new platforms. The VISTA will also work with Room to Grow’s donor databases to help the organization maximize the benefits of these tools in communicating with existing and prospective donors and volunteers. In addition, the VISTA will be tasked with recruiting and training skills based volunteers who can continue to implement the social media plan once the VISTA period concludes.

The ultimate objective is for this VISTA’s work to increase community awareness of Room to Grow’s program causing an increase in in-kind and corporate donations of baby items for clients enrolled in our program.

Development Associate
The Development Associate provides leadership and oversight for the day-to-day administrative and operational functioning of Room to Grow’s development activities and special projects. Room to Grow seeks a dynamic, detail-oriented individual who will be responsible for database management and gift processing in addition to providing critical administrative support to the organization’s annual campaigns, grants program and special events. This is a full time position that will work in close partnership with the Director of Development and Executive Director. The successful candidate will be a solutions-oriented individual who is eager to learn all functions of a fast-paced development team.

Responsibilities include:
Database Management and Gift Processing
1. Manage systems and tools used to track donor and prospect information (Constant Contact, Salesforce)
2. Input all donor and prospect information into the donor database (Salesforce) such as detailed giving history/preferences and requirements with attention to accuracy
3. Ensure timely production of gift acknowledgements and receipts with attention to best stewardship practices
4. Produce weekly reports on development activity and progress
5. Lead revenue reporting and reconciliation with appropriate team members in preparation for quarterly board meetings and annual audit.


Special Projects & Events 
1. Provide administrative and logistical support for annual Mother’s Day Breakfast, Fall Gala and other events according to annual event calendar
2. Assist with organizing and leading fundraising groups including the young professional’s council
3. Complete other tasks as determined by the Development Director and Executive Director


Grant Writing & Reporting
1. Develop and manage a grant calendar of opportunities informed by prospect research of foundation and corporate grant deadlines and funding criteria
2. Prepare quality grant submissions that convey the mission and impact of Room to Grow for each audience
3. Prepare grant reports to convey appropriate stewardship and in accordance with any other requirements by donor
4. Coordinate staff participation in writing and editing proposals as needed
5. Stay abreast of local and national research and trends regarding early childhood interventions and anti-poverty work
6. Update grants clipboard and boilerplates regularly to ensure content is fresh and up-to-date


Development Operations
1. Prepare outgoing communications (print and electronic) including newsletters, annual appeals, event sponsorships and invitations
2. Manage and produce mailing lists for all outgoing communications (print and electronic) including newsletters, annual appeals and event invitations
3. Conduct prospect research on potential donors and corporate supporters to help asses opportunities for funding


Qualifications:
• BA/BS, one year of relevant professional or data management experience preferred
• Superior attention to detail and organizational skills with understanding of the effective use of data to drive action
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal)
• Enthusiasm and personal commitment to Room to Grow's mission
• Self motivated, yet collaborative with appreciation for working cross-functionally within a small team
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required
• Knowledge of Salesforce and Google tools strongly preferred

Room to Grow Development and Inventory Internships
Room to Grow seeks interns interested in nonprofit management, programmatic operations, and early childhood development. Interns will support the staff of Room to Grow in a variety of capacities.

Spring | 2014
Young Professional's Leadership Council
Room to Grow seeks energized volunteers interested in being public ambassadors for the organization and who will actively participate in fundraising activities.

Room to Grow will launch its first young professional's leadership council this spring. Committee members will organize fundraising activities and events, introduce the organization to new prospective donors and identify new fundraising opportunities. All members are expected to make a financial contribution to the organization. The committee will meet four times a year, with regular contact and interaction with the Executive Director and Development Director at Room to Grow.
