Strong Starts Book Drive: Double Your Impact

Early Learning Partner Houghton Mifflin Harcourt presents Room to Grow's Strong Starts Book Drive. The need is great. Reading aloud to young children is proven to increase school readiness, establish deep emotional bonds between parent and child, and reduce stress for both. And studies show that having more books in the home propels children 2.4 years further in their education, regardless of economic status or a parent's level of education.1

Every baby in Room to Grow's program receives 10 books at each visit, while parents receive support and instruction on how to engage in active reading and incorporate it into their family's every-day routine. As a result, 90% of families in Room to Grow's program read together mulitple times a week, significantly more than their peers.

Providing low-income families with a home library of more than 130 books and the support they need to nurture a love of learning, are critical components to ensuring Room to Grow children start school on par with their middle-income peers, greatly improving their chances of breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty.

We are very grateful to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, who will be matching every book donated during the Strong Starts Drive. Please help us meet our goal of collecting 8,000 books to instill a love of reading for hundreds of Room to Grow children today.
