Spotlight on Nursing Room to Grow is pleased to announce
that all new moms enrolled with Room to Grow in New York and an equal number in
Boston are nursing. As part of a new program, Room to Grow social workers conduct
follow-up phone calls with our moms just after the birth of the child. The general
aim of these calls is to ascertain how the mother and baby are doing. Topics discussed
include sleeping habits, stress level, familial support and involvement, in addition
to providing nutritional information and inquiring about feeding habits. Mothers
enrolled with Room to Grow are strongly encouraged to breastfeed.
The American
Academy of Pediatrics reports that breastfeeding provides health, nutritional,
immunologic, developmental, psychologic, social, economic, and environmental benefits.
Our social workers share this information with our moms and are there to answer
any questions or speak to any concerns they might have. Congratulations to all
of our new mothers! Donate
now to our breastfeeding initiative and
give babies born into poverty the best possible start in life. May
